What I'll Miss About Nebraska.2

http://thecuplincoln.com/

I discovered this coffee shop online about a month ago, and I seriously can't get enough of it. All of their coffee and tea is free-trade AND all of their baking is organic (I checked and organic still has calories...darn it). I can't even describe to you how delicious their signature Cinn-a-muffins and unique cupcakes are. The coffee is always great and they have probably 30 different teas to choose from. I know I sound like an advertisement for this place, but I'm an advertising major...duh.

I will miss this place, but mostly the quality time it gives me with some of the most wonderful people in my life. A laid back and peaceful environment begs a seriously deep and enjoyable conversation. There's also always such an interesting cross section of patrons, which I totally appreciate and am amused by.

If you live in Lincoln, check it out and you must eat a cupcake or a panini. I mean, just look at the menu and tell me you don't want to jump in your car right now.

Hmm, maybe I'll get some friends to mail me a cupcake every month...

How hungry am I getting talking about this (1-10): 7

What I'll Miss About Nebraska.1

For those loyal (probably disappointed) readers of my blog, I've decided to describe every day for the next month something I will miss about the University of Nebraska, and probably the state in general. I realize that this is mostly for my closure and vain purposes, but there's bound to be something funny at some point.

I'm currently sitting in my Anthropology class learning about the differences between humans and great apes. Um, no, I won't be missing this class...like at all. But as the clock strikes 6:25 p.m., so chimes "There is no place like Nebraska" from Mueller Bell Tower. On tours, I used to tell the story/myth about the organist who used to play the music inside the tower (that part is true) who got locked inside one day (also true). He began playing "Help!" by the Beatles until a professor in Bessy Hall could no longer stand it and got curious, finding the organist and letting him out (the Beatles part isn't true, just funny when I start singing it for prospective students and their parents).

I'm sure most of you know that the bells serenade us with music from the Sound of Music and the Beatles, as well as our fight song and Hail Varsity. The bells are really beautiful and have always made me feel like I was ON a university and part of a community. Everyone can hear those bells when they ring, even those stuck in a worst case class.

I only wish I could find a ring tone that sounded so good.

How close am I to crying right now (1-10): 3

OK fine

I'll update my blog.
It's been a while, I guess. Life has been exceptionally crazy these past months, and I haven't really wanted to write or journal or blog about any of it.
Meanwhile, it's spring break and I'm heading for Texas tomorrow morning...all by myself!! Eek! I've never driven that far by myself, but I guess now, on the brink of my graduation, I should probably grow up. In other words, pray for me.

I'll be working on my Honors Thesis over break, which is NOT exciting but completely necessary.
I also hope to see some friends and get some much (MUCH) needed rest. My uncle is very sick right now, so I don't think that my visit home will be very pleasant, but it's good to be with family at times like this. (pray for him, too, please)

On a lighter note, I'm watching 13 Going On 30, which is a little ridiculous but delightful in its own way.
(I miss Friday night movies with my girls: Amanda, Tia and Emily...sad)

Lastly, can I have this dress, please? Thanks.

options

Current realistic options for next year: Boston College, University of Maryland, FOCUS, UNL.
FOCUS and UNL have not officially extended invitations yet, just so the record is straight.

If you ask me what my preferences are, I will stop talking to you for a week.
Not really, but seriously...don't ask me that.
I'm open to discussions and informational sessions, but until then, I will focus on what I am looking forward to currently:

1. Watching 500 Days of Summer (for the third time) with Amanda, Ben and Jerry.
2. Going to Kansas City in a week with Katie Kolega.
3. Going to Maryland in two weeks to see the Weeders, Josh, many others and America!
4. Lent (starting on Wednesday)!
5. Making a decision...eventually.

Someday I'm going to see my long lost friends Emily and Tia. Someday.

Lastly, I literally stumbled upon this website that I like: http://needsupply.com//
Literally.

i want to go to there

The New York Times had a photoblog with pictures from Mexico City. It looks so beautiful. I want to go there someday. Also, Colombia. It's not as dangerous as it used to be, and I saw Anthony Bordain go down and eat amazing food. What a job.

Meanwhile, I guess I'll have to settle for travel plans to Maryland and possibly Boston.
Also, I bought a suit today. It is cute. AND I got some free pants that are very cute.
Successful shopping days make me happy.

And I love my roommate because she watches Mean Girls with me.

YOU CAN'T JOIN MATHLETES! It's social suicide!

no air, air

If you are a man reading this, thank you for all of those things you do for your wife, sister, girlfriend, daughter and girl friends that they don't want to do (and let's face it, can't really do well). If your a woman reading this, thank your respective man(s).

What's prompting this sudden display of gratitude for the (generally) hairier sex? Well, while my trip to Omaha this weekend was incredibly fun, stress-relieving and appreciated, it was also stricken with a temporary car crisis.

Before I left Lincoln on Saturday afternoon, I DID notice that the pressure in one of my tires was pretty low (shhh...don't tell my dad), but I figured I would probably be OK driving to Omaha, where I would find a place to fill it up with air. Meanwhile, Sunday morning both front tires were dangerously low and my friend Sara graciously offered to go with me to a gas station where we would try to figure out exactly HOW to put air in a tire.
Yeah, that didn't happen.

Two gas stations and two phone calls to each of our dads later, we were exhausted and had somehow managed to let air OUT of the tires...making them appear almost flat. Thankfully, when I called the friend I was supposed to pick up for shopping, she told me her husband would fill my tires with his personal air compressor. All we had to do was drive the five or so miles to her house, and somehow we got there without having to pull over on the interstate. He made it look so easy as he explained to me the nature of my tires and why I was lucky I got as far as I did with my carelessness while quickly and skillfully filling each tire. He reminded me of all of the great things my dad does for me, has done for me and probably will continue to do for me because he enjoys it.

I know that many women can and do manage their own vehicles, lawn mowing, branch cutting and bug killing very well. But I also know that men desire adventure and using their God-given strength and unique thought process, just like woman nurture and love with a fierce and fearless grace. Gender roles are OK, and I certainly learned that again this weekend.

So, thanks again dads, brothers and husbands of my good friends.
You guys rock.
